The inaugural panel continues: we’ve heard Sophia Buck on her fascinating project on “Enemy Studies”, charting claims about “Two Germanies” esp in UK German Studies. Now Bill Niven talking about meta-memory, meta-memorials and the Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas

The conference proper begins with Ian Cooper’s “Critique of pure worldliness” and a discussion David Blackbourn, the Reformation, and “global Germany”…

Key takeaways:
1) the conference programme is on the AGS website, the Oxford MML website and on the notice board in the foyer
2) no fire drills are anticipated between now and the end of the conference on Wednesday
3) taking German studies into the world is an important and pressing undertaking 🙂💪
