If Trump can disappear legal residents without due process, what’s to stop him from doing the same to U.S. citizens who oppose him?

Either everyone has due process — or no one does.

Even if you (wrongly) believe that some immigrants lack due process rights, what’s to stop the government from claiming that *you* are an undocumented immigrant; removing you to El Salvador; citing an “administrative error”; and refusing to do anything to bring you back?

The answer is due process.

The fifth amendment says no person shall be denied life liberty or property without due process. Not “ no citizen” or “ no citizen except for….”. NO PERSON. Period.

Feeling the same way today. Everything is especially depressing.

The greatest political scandal today is not what Trump is doing. It is the fact that congressional Republicans have given up their role in the constitutional system as a check on the executive branch.
