Today, WTO members celebrate the entry into force of the Agreement on #FisheriesSubsidies – the first WTO multilateral deal focused on environmental sustainability.

As WTO faces an impasse in most negotiations and a systemic crisis, the EU 🇪🇺 stressed today at the WTO Trade Negotiations Committee that #WTOReform must be the top priority to improve WTO's governance, and update its rules, notably on industrial policies and non-market practices.

At today’s WTO General Council, the EU 🇪🇺 calls for action on global trade fragmentation caused by US tariffs. Members must address this most pressing trade issue through dialogue—while also tackling the root causes of the WTO crisis and global macroeconomic imbalances.

The US tariffs fall squarely within the WTO’s remit. The WTO must not stand idle: it has the tools to assess impacts & host structured dialogue.

We urge the US to notify its tariff, and other Members to respond in line with WTO rules.

With the global trading system under strain, #MC14 must focus on deep WTO reform.

This means better governance of the organization, reforming the negotiating function, updating the rulebook to address its critical gaps — including on level playing field and industrial policy.
