Between 1966 and 1973 Phyllis Dillon crafted some of the most iconic rocksteady and reggae tracks ever released.

Born on 21 February 1964 in Kingston, Jamaica, Sophia George rose to fame in 1985 with her original track “Girlie Girlie,” which dominated the local RJR chart for 11 weeks.

Legendary Jamaican music producer Phil Pratt has passed away, with the cause of his passing on 25th February yet to be confirmed. A huge loss to both fans of his music and those lucky enough to have enjoyed his company.

We’re celebrating the remarkable Sonia Pottinger. Originally an accountant, she became a trailblazing producer behind countless reggae hits, working with artists such as Ken Boothe, The Melodians, and The Gaylads, and producing ballads like “Every Night” by Joe White & Chuck Josephs.

In the lead-up to International Women’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible women who have shaped Trojan Records - starting with the Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths.

Artist of the week - Bruce Ruffin! Often overlooked as just a pop-leaning reggae artist, Ruffin’s career tells a different story. As a singer-songwriter, he delivered some of the strongest recordings of the rock steady and early reggae era.

Widely regarded as a classic of Lovers Rock, this 1981 release was produced by Carroll Thompson and Bertie King for the independent S&G label. Its crossover chart success helped define her legacy, while its lasting presence on sound systems made it a go-to slow jam.

Our Artist of the Week is Marie Pierre! Her delicate delivery on "Walk Away" made this track a favourite on UK sound systems, especially for late-night selectors pulling out the deep cuts. Produced by Lovers Rock pioneer Dennis Bovell, this 1978 hit captures the genre’s emotional honesty.
