It sucks because a lot of the people in the "fight" right now are true believers in the American project and the supposed ideals of the constitution. They want to preserve what they perceive as the good.
But what we need right now is people who can see us through to the next thing.

Good morning! I’m currently at Beaverton High School in OR where a mass student walk out has just started to demand a proactive ICE protocol for their school and district.

Students say that similar walkouts were planned at multiple other high schools, including Aloha, Sunset, Southridge & more.

I want the seizure of empty property from landlords and city-wide rent stabilization. I want PPB contract halved and the prosecution of individual ICE agents or at least legal cover for those who would take it upon themselves to do what the city gov won't. And that's just for starters.

The left starts at the end of capitalism. You can be on the left-end of the right-wing, or the left of the center, which is what it seems like to me. Nothing wrong with that.

The point still stands. Don't claim to speak for "the city" or "Portlanders* as a whole when you have zero evidence of that being true. You're welcome to say "me and my friends think Wilson is great" or "me and my friends think city council is failing".

You know what, that's actually a somewhat fair claim, unlike your original claims about city council. Without proper surveys and statistical analysis, I can't really say you're wrong on that. Most people in my circles would disagree, but as we've established we have different circles.

That's sure, but you also live in Portland. Your idea of left seems to be based on a spectrum where war criminal neoliberal corporatists like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are "the left". In Portland, and much of the world, the left is people who at MINIMUM oppose the failures of capitalism.

Palestine matters to the city. Rent prices matter to the city. Federal fascism matters to the city. They're doing exactly what they rna on, which got them the most votes.

If you were, your ideas would have won the last election. There were plenty of candidates saying what you're saying. Instead, nearly half of the elected council is openly aligned with "DSA". You can be as conservative as you want, but don't pretend you're in some kind of secret majority.
