I wrote them myself over the past couple of days!

100 years ago this month, and #CPFC took the unusual step of 'sacking' two players. Hopefully of interest to some (probably older) followers:

OTD 120 years ago (11/11/1905) the United League game between Luton Town and #CPFC was abandoned after 85 minutes due to bad light.

Palace led 1:0 (Watkins) and it was the first of 16 Palace games (to date) to be abandoned.

Palace won the replayed game 2:1 (Needham, Thompson G) 100 days later.

So the average Home gate during Venables first spell (Division 3 / 2 /1) was 22,083. For his second (all second tier) it was 15,709.

Looking at League Matches only:

I should probably break up the managers who had two or more spells as managers.

It got worse - after Kember, in came Alan Mullery and those gaps became yawning chasms...

20 managers (incl. caretakers) and Oliver Glasner have managed #CPFC as a top-tier club. With game 80 coming up:

None has earned as many points per game (3 for a win) as Oliver Glasner (1.71)

None has a losing % as low as Oliver Glasner (23%)

None has a winning % as high as Oliver Glasner (47%)

He's also been known to step up with a brace when we've conceded an own goal (Guehi v #BHA 15th December 2024) or on his birthday (v Aston Villa 25th February 2025).

This season, #CPFC have played 17 matches through the end of October.

The club record is 22 in 1969 - 16 Division One games plus 6 in the League Cup (one being abandoned).

August 9th was (at that time) the earliest date for a Palace game, though we have since started twice on 5th August.

I watched "The Thinking Game" last night (very good) which featured Sir Demis Hassabis' Doctoral Advisor Dubliner Prof. Eleanor Maguire.

She sadly passed away in January, but her entry in "Who's Who" listed her recreations as "Comedy lover, long-suffering supporter of #CPFC, and getting lost."

For the #CPFC 1965/66 season, the "Voice of the Palace" was BBC Snooker and Billiards commentator "Whispering Ted" Lowe. When TV broadcasting duties meant he was unavailable, his replacement was John Henty, who took over when Lowe moved on. Here is Henty pictured for a feature on his 31st birthday:

Opponent's Own Goals for #CPFC ranked by Own Goal per game (minimum of two Own Goals) - Rochdale on top...

02.11.2025 20:19 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

As far as I know, there is no single source for Own Goals conceded. The opposing team would have an Own Goal scored in their records, so you could look at every opponent's scorers but an onerous task.

I'll take a look at the correlation between Own Goals and matches played...

02.11.2025 19:40 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

From a #CPFC perspective, that would be a negative so it's not something I track. It would be interesting to know though!

Correction: It's 60 clubs.

A November 2004 'Own Goal' by Southampton's Andreas Jakobsson was by a deflection and was later credited to Wayne Routledge - his only Premier League goal for #CPFC.
