To be honest, when I completed the chapter on Barth's writing, I was left feeling a little disappointed - his ideas, when looking at them through a disability lens, felt oversimplified and not necessarily applicable to the subject of disability - but after watching the lecture provided, I realized that I had completely missed the point! Dr. Daniel's explanations really brought the text to life, and I was drawn to Barth's thoughts on our being called to be God's witnesses. Each of us, irrespective of our abilities or disabilities, is required to be active, not passive, in our ministries by living a life that points to Jesus in all that we do, whether that is through teaching, hospitality, or simply by a gentle touch. God empowers us, and we are called to follow.
