Single Seniors for Tax Fairness

The National Pensioners Federation has launched a petition to the federal government demanding that they enforce the Canada Health Act in Ontario. You can sign their petition here: www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en.... After you sign, you'll receive an email asking you to confirm your signature.

This morning, our petition had 896 signatures. Let's get it to over 1000! It is open until December 28, 2025. We have sent links to other seniors' organizations so that they can share the petition with their members. Check our October 29 post for the link and instructions for completing it.

On Tuesday, December 2, Elizabeth will be speaking remotely at a gathering of Seniors Action Quebec. The session will be in English. To attend, register here until Nov 30. www.seniorsactionquebec.ca/.../tuesday-.... The $10 charge only applies to those attending in person.

The Life Research Institute at the University of Ottawa is launching an innovative project to enhance the quality of life and optimize the wellbeing of solo retirees.

Elizabeth presented to the Third Quarter Information Meeting of the Mississauga Seniors' Council (MSC) on Tuesday, September 23.

They have added their names to the list of seniors' groups who support our efforts.

We will be launching an electronic petition to the Government of Canada. An electronic version will allow us to capture more signatures nation wide. We are aiming for over 500!

Federal Riding recount update: The Liberal candidate Anthony Germain, a CBC Journalist who SSTF met with prior to him leaving the network, did not win the recount in Terra Nova-The Peninsulas. We were hoping that he would be a good contact.

According to the Auditor General's report, Programs to Assist Seniors, 39% of senior renters are living in unaffordable housing, (costing more than 30% of pre-tax household income.) Are rents based on tenants' marital statuses or the number of people in a unit? No. So why are singles taxed more?
