Angela Bassett in this is amazing!

Read the first and liked it but that was decades ago. Read the second and didn't get into. Never felt the need to read the third. I think if I were to revisit it I would have a harder time with the author killing off nearly the entire cast of the movie off screen.

The thing with Star Trek though is all of the existential threats: the Borg, V'ger level threats, time being rewritten and wiping out your entire existence, the multiverse collapsing (ala end of Lower Decks). Star Wars is just war and poverty. It's not utopia but it's largely survivable

I can unreservedly recommend Death of the Necromancer and City of Bones

The only time anyone talks about TLJ is when someone is talking about people who didn't like TLJ

The roguish smuggler type unexpectedly betraying the heroes. The basic premise of ESB with the downbeat ending and just narrowly escaping the Empire and barely surviving to fight another day. For all that TLJ tries to say it's about moving on, it sure rehashes a lot

It's weird watching someone so willfully misunderstand something. TLJ is just as much of a nostalgia fest as TFA despite trying to pretend it's not. It's the Emperor's throne room scene, Yoda and the tree on Dagobah. Luke leaving his training early. The battle of Hoth with AT-ATs and snowspeeders

I don't know about Palpatine, but Coruscant definitely had a different pronunciation prior to Phantom Menace. The "-sant" was definitely something new for EU fans at the time

That's what we struggle with as fans. "Why do you support such an obvious fascist when you love Star Wars with such a clear anti-fascist message?" Because they like the cool space battles and laser sword fights. For some people Star Wars is just surface level fun and they don't see the disconnect
