Did you know between 70 and 75% of all our call volumes are about disability discrimination. But we also advise individuals facing any type of discrimination for all 9 protected characteristics. This includes race, sex, pregnancy and maternity and we are happy to help with impartial free advice

Another bank holiday is upon us and as usual, we will close the helpline on Bank Holiday Monday.
Our lines will re-open at their usual time of 9am on Tuesday 6th May.

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Equality Act gaining Royal assent.
Since 2010 the Act has provided protection for individuals with one of the 9 protected characteristics from discrimination.

Since 2012, our helpline has been advising thousands of people on The Equality Act.

We are still within our busiest period of the year and it looks like calls for March were 10% over what we had forecast. This shows that there is still a huge demand for advice on discrimination incidents, especially for those raising incidents of disability and race discrimination.

This week in EASS:
Calls around Neuro Diversity in schools and also a small increase in volume relating to Pregnancy and Maternity issues in work.
We are in the middle of our busiest period when in March we traditionally take the most calls.

Our usual opening hours for the helpline are 9am to 7pm each weekday. But we also recongnise that for some people, calling in the week may be difficult. That is why we have an additional advice session between 10am and 2pm each Saturday.

We provide advice to people experiencing discrimination due to any of the 9 protected characteristics of the Equality Act. Recent study of our call volumes how that at the end of Feb 2025, nearly 20% of all our volume are focussed on discrimination because of Neuro-diversity.

Traditionally, disability discrimination calls have always been the highest volume of calls we receive. But recently, with more people seeking advice about mental health and also neurodiversity and the impact of discrimination, around 72% of all our volume is now disability discrimination related.
