Acting for the CPS Appeals & Review Unit, Ben FitzGerald KC and Jennifer Newcomb successfully argued that the “significant risk of serious physical harm” under s.5 can arise from the very unlawful act or omission that caused the child’s death, and need not pre-exist the fatal conduct.

The Court of Appeal has handed down judgment in R v Jamal [2026] EWCA Crim 135, a significant ruling on the scope of s.5 of the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004.

Selva Ramasamy KC has been appointed Legal Director to Para Standing Tennis, the international governing body for tennis players with ambulatory disabilities who compete without a wheelchair.

The Tribunal rejected the doctor’s account that he had been “spiked”, found his fitness to practise impaired, and imposed a six-month suspension, accepting Alex’s submissions on impairment and sanction.

Alex Mullen of QEB Hollis Whiteman represented the General Medical Council in fitness to practise proceedings concerning a consultant convicted of outraging public decency.

The defendant pleaded guilty during the second week of trial and was sentenced to 9 years and 11 months.

Philip Stott prosecuted a former nursery and primary school worker convicted of 56 serious child sex offences committed between 2011 and 2024 at schools and nurseries in North London.

On 12 February 2026 at Wood Green Crown Court, Vincent Chan was sentenced to an extended 26-year term.

Today, the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) offered no evidence against Graeme Hossie, Rachel Rhodes and Ariel Armon, concluding an investigation that began over eight and a half years ago and resulting in the acquittal of all three.

Crispin Aylett KC of QEB Hollis Whiteman is prosecuting four men charged with the murder of Michelle Sadio and the attempted murder of two others in a drive-by shooting outside a church in Harlesden, London, on 14 December 2024.

Holdrick was sentenced to a three years’ imprisonment, to run in and is currently serving a 12-year custodial sentence previously imposed for a separate armed robbery.

At Wood Green Crown Court, Kirk Holdrick pleaded guilty to burglary having smashed a side window and attempted to gain access to the bedroom with a crowbar.

Thomas Coke-Smyth of QEB Hollis Whiteman appeared for the prosecution in the case of a burglary of a London property where actress Anya Taylor-Joy was staying in February 2023.

The Inquiry is examining mental health inpatient deaths in Essex between 2000 and 2023.
