This is likely an artifact caused by the fact that large scale surveys didn't provide a 'none' option until the British Social Attitudes survey in 1983. Previously people would default to stating a Christian denomination.

There was a huge X-class solar flare yesterday on the Sun!

Before you know it, to an outside observer it appears that everyone in the room agrees with the speaker when in fact very few or even none do. This is an incredibly dangerous social dynamic and if you can't see where it directly leads then, I have to tell you, you have your eyes closed. 4/5
