The greatest enemy of your viewership, right now, is probably caring too much about numbers.

I'm saying this as a full-time streamer, as someone who is doing this as my job.

And the more people say "lurkers don't matter" or "Twitch doesn't count lurkers," the more your average person is gonna be like, oh fuck, I guess lurking doesn't matter anymore. I guess I don't need to do this. I guess I'm not helping. I guess it doesn't matter.

Basically, I understand the sentiment, but you have to be -really careful- when you talk about how your viewership isn't "authentic" or "doesn't count" anymore that you're not throwing people under the bus.

I have seen the words "lurkers don't matter" way too fucking much this past week.

The danger is that as people continue to debate ways to "engage" with a stream more and more, you're going to inadvertently push away the people who you should be grateful for the most; people popping your stream up on their TV, on their phone in bed, even just in another tab for the company's sake.

There's a lot of Feelings right now surrounding a perceived CCV change that I've tried to help logic out for people a few times, but I genuinely think the core issue is that people are just... tired, scared, and insecure. Shit's scary and the idea that it could all be lost in an instant is worse.

In light of Everything That's Happening recently, I just want to make sure the narrative doesn't twist in a way to make any of you feel unappreciated;

Legitimately, to anyone who's ever shown up to a stream to offer support, silent or otherwise, thank you. You're genuinely far too kind.

I love the inner workings of games, and the weird, surreal realities they often make through their boundaries or lack thereof.

Unironically I think this is one of the most interesting and enjoyable streams I've ever done, and it's a great litmus test for if you'll like my channel or not.

For context, we found a bug in a game that we explored for the entire duration of a stream rather than doing... you know, literally anything else - including actually playing the game.

It's a beautiful and meaningful feeling that I treasure.

So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping make this imposter feel legit.

Twitch hasn't felt "real" to me in a measurable way until projects like this, where I'm forced to sit here and chart a literal map of all these names, all these memories, all these laughs that I've shared with every single one of you who said "yeah I'm down for more of this bug."

There's a power to that; it means the channel's never felt heartless. Cheesy as it might sound, I really do feel like no matter how big or small the crowd is, I've always just wanted to be there, mucking about, seeing if I can get even a single one of my buddies to smile.

I don't feel any different from when I was reviewing people's desktops and riffing on their disorganization to a handful of viewers.

I've dealt with imposter syndrome all my life and, frankly, I thought after achieving the various goals on Twitch that we have I'd be able to finally consider myself a legitimate streamer and entertainer on the platform.

Unfortunately, still waiting for that to click.

It is utterly immeasurable how much impact your presence, community, and support has had on not just the stream, but my actual entire existence.

I know not everyone cares about having a bit of stream real estate in this manner, but I wanted to show my gratitude to those willing to support me and demonstrate that, very literally, it's not a stream without them (and won't be ever again).

For the unaware, I've been working on replacing my display capture's border with subscriber submitted c-boards all month. I will be using this new overlay literally forever.

I also made a colour-coded map for all of you to help find yourselves!

We've been doing private lobbies within the community for a couple of competitive games recently and it's reminded me how much fun GAMING with people is when someone's not abusive or tilted or what have you! GAMES ARE FUN! WILD NEW DISCOVERY!

My secret is I absolutely love online and competitive games but you literally could not pay me enough money to deal with a stranger's personality problems, which really does rule out pretty much every current online game.
