Opening up about my IRL culture, which I as an American have complicated feelings for in the first place, leaves me vulnerable and "others" me, even here, in a way that my queerness doesn't. I personally am just not brave enough to put myself through the tribulations of visibility, unfortunately

I'm pretty new to participating in fandom in any form, and the thought of sharing my ethnic background seemed antithetical to existing in a space like this, which is supposed to be a sort of escapist fantasy. It's the internalized racism talking, 100%.

The fact that so many members of the community are shocked when they find out a furry isn’t white should be viewed as a problem.

We’ve always been here, furs of color shouldn’t be viewed as some kind of super recent trend that’s popped up out of nowhere.
