A peacock butterfly in the middle of the picture, its wings spread wide above and below it. The butterfly rests on flowery pink buddleja, and has red/orange wings with dark circles with white outlines at the tips. Its body is very fluffy dark brown.

This one of the ‘Empress of India' variety of Nasturtiums (aka ‘Indian Cress'). It’s not as hardy as some of the newer hybrids and tends to get mould if conditions are too wet for too long, so we don’t usually plant this variety outside until the Spring rains are over.

Leaf chafers like this Platycoelia has many "friend-shaped" attributes: Round. Smooth. Shiny. Big eyes. Green.
This photo isn't the best way to show these traits, but it shows the one thing about it that isn't friendly - its sharp curved claws, which are used for climbing branches just like a sloth!

The flowering Hawkits in the Upton garden have attracted Pantaloon Bees for the first time this week - absolutely fabulous little aculeates with massive trousers, & one of my favourites #hymenoptera

I don't know how the phrase "tree hugger" can ever be seen as an insult. Hugging trees is a great. Even better is waking up in a tree's arms and telling it your dreams.
