Depends on where you go! In Italy most of the population is Catholic and there are left-wing parties that appeal to Catholics too. Also in the US mostly white Christians voted for trump, but non-white ones much less so

Religion is mainly used to construct an idea of national identity as Christian. Especially, Christianity is used against Islam and to preserve the "natural" family (e.g. against abortion or LGBTQ+)
