Baku court erects new fence and prohibits journalists from photographing defendants This is just the latest attempt to block independent media from covering Azerbaijan’s ongoing media crackdown.

A new metal fence has been erected around Baku’s Khatai District Court blocking the ability of journalists to photograph defendants. A police cordon has also been established, with journalists reportedly refused entry into the court.

It has been three years since the murder of LGBTQ+ rights activist and journalist Avaz Hafizli in Azerbaijan. On February 22, 2022, he was attacked and killed with multiple stab wounds by his cousin Ama Gulaliyev, in a hate crime. #hatecrimes
