Tumbler Ridge is a small planned resource community, a winding 90 minute drive from the nearest city of at least 10,000 people.
A massive number of people are going to descend there tomorrow.
May those that arrive have respect and grace for the unimaginable grief.
A small countertop espresso maker with a sign that reads "Hej! I'm just a display".
I like to think this sign is needed because so many people try to make espresso at Ikea.

I helped conveners organize a community meeting for a fifteen block area, with "Preparing For ICE" as the theme.
Less than 48 hours before the event we had to switch to Zoom.
First meeting, so no email list to notify.
And we STILL peaked at 234 people on the call at once.
People are *done*
Itβs easy to imagine agents of state violence β like ICE β as uniquely evil.
But history shows, under the right conditions, most humans are capable of horrors.
Itβs only in confronting that reality that we can begin to inoculate ourselves against it.
@yveilleuxlepage.bsky.social helps explain:
π§΅βHow do seemingly ordinary people become agents of state murder?β This is one of the guiding questions I ask students in my graduate class on genocide/state violence. With recent events, it is a question many Americans are asking.
I do not have a definitive answer, but here is a reading list: 1/
