just listened to Dr. Drew Weissman’s talk today. Amazing science & his passion on vaccine therapeutics equity touched my heart. I agree that collective advancement of biotechnology by helping other countries to establish their own platform and research facilities will be critical combating dieases

Recently I was evaluated by my therapist to potentially have ADHD which prompted me to get a book to learn more about it. I have never felt so seen.. time collapsing reference and β€œnow or not now” distinction are so true. This is how i feel everyday (especially in the lab) 🫨🫨🫨

This letter reminded me that I am not a poor communicator but I need to practice. No one is good at everything from the get-go. Writing and speaking can be improved and polished with time and effort!! Science is a study of creativity and novelty but also resilience and persistence. 3/n

If you personally know me, you may be surprised! I seem *mostly coherent* and well spoken. However, I do perform suboptimal when I have to produce work that will be scrutinized by others, perhaps due to negative self-talk that I *just* suck without any evidence that ever disproved my inability 2/n

An open letter to graduate students and other procrastinators: it’s time to write - Nature Biotechnology Nature Biotechnology - An open letter to graduate students and other procrastinators: it’s time to write

Amazing read:

As a trainee, my biggest weaknesses are public speaking and fear of writing. I have been told many times during college β€œyou are too scatterbrained” in essays and during presentations. From these feedbacks, I created innervoices that I suck at these. 1/n

Just in NIH grants, It looks like beautiful Iowa City, home of the U of Iowa, will lose $71m in funding. That's almost $1k per resident. And that's before all the other cuts to SSA, FDA, etc.

Anyone in Iowa City that can offer more insight?

It pains us to say this.
Our lab aims to find cures for many GI conditions.
We proudly do both discovery & mentor students - Americans & non-americans alike, & we will have to pause both..unless we find support.

JCI Insight - Human colonic EVs induce murine enteric neuroplasticity via the lncRNA GAS5/miR-23/NMDA NR2B axis

Extracellular vesicles (Evs) isolated from post infection ibs-d patients can increase visceral hypersensitivity via gas5/mir-23ab/nmda nrb2 pathway. Blocking gas5 reversed the phenotype. Takeaway: EVs as a messenger and therapeutic vessel for enteric neuropathy

UC San Diego, bracing for more than $200M in funding cuts, freezes faculty hiring β€˜This is the biggest financial challenge in UCSD’s history,’ said Terry Gaasterland, a longtime faculty member.

The Trump admin’s proposed cuts would devastate UCSD, harm San Diego’s economy, stall scientific progress, and weaken America’s leadership in research and innovation.
