Mostly agree but working in scarce production housing markets with limited detached construction, I’m concerned build to rent will decrease ownership stock and keep upward pressure on entry level purchase opportunities. Would rather see higher density rentals developed and SF available for purchase

In the west- we have plenty of land. It’s a lot of other issues- infrastructure, zoning, construction costs- that are holding back housing affordability.

HB571 creates a designation for communities with best practice land use and zoning frameworks. This would allow our office to establish standards that could later be used to prioritize funding or other incentives. Passed the House unanimously. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...

HB325 is a middle housing construction tax credit. It would provide around $10k sales tax reduction for new homes built below the FHA price limits. This would offset our unusual tax structure on construction and move bigger projects that are on the fence financially. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
