Working on housing systems because to create a world where everyone has housing they can afford
Itβs like, have we just tried housing? Itβs literally in the name of the problem
11.08.2025 14:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Mostly agree but working in scarce production housing markets with limited detached construction, Iβm concerned build to rent will decrease ownership stock and keep upward pressure on entry level purchase opportunities. Would rather see higher density rentals developed and SF available for purchase

It amazing the lovely urban fabrics you can create when you donβt have to design around cars

16.07.2025 12:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the west- we have plenty of land. Itβs a lot of other issues- infrastructure, zoning, construction costs- that are holding back housing affordability.
09.07.2025 00:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0and while 2000 documented homeless is striking- that is a 100% solvable for a wealthy community like Santa Fe.
27.05.2025 22:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Santa Fe County is 5% of New Mexicoβs population but this data suggests 20% of the stateβs homeless population. Wild. www.santafenewmexican.com/news/local_n...

12.05.2025 16:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Jail release w/out transport is also a huge driver of homelessness, especially in large rural counties.

21.03.2025 01:54 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0HB554 NM's first attempt at Statewide zoning reform died an unceremonious death at its last committee last night. Three dems joined the Republicans to vote it down 6-4. The bill would have legalized guest houses statewide and made it allowable to build housing in commercial zones and near rail stops

13.03.2025 17:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Taken together this is a really great array of housing interventions that can help New Mexico tackling housing from a range of angles, and hopefully get us moving in the right direction around housing affordability. Stay tuned as it will certainly be a whirlwind over the next 10 days.
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0lastly HB339 amends the state's human right act to add protections for source of income discrimination for housing banning discrimination for people that have housing assistance or other types of outside income like child support. This passed the House 42-24. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0and HB253 would provide for sealing of eviction court records if your case is dismissed (right now many credit scraping services treat a filing the same as an actual eviction). This passed the House 38-25 and heads to senate committees. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We're also seeing some housing protections long-sought by advocates move forward. SB267 would cap fees property management companies can charge for applications for housing. This passed the senate 37-2 and heads to the house. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0HB426 is a manufactured housing community opportunity to purchase bill. Great legislation that would help protect the 25,000 of naturally occurring affordable housing units in NM. Moving slower but hopefully on the House floor this weekend. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0HB571 creates a designation for communities with best practice land use and zoning frameworks. This would allow our office to establish standards that could later be used to prioritize funding or other incentives. Passed the House unanimously. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 1We also have two of the first statewide zoning bills with good movement and bipartisan support. HB554 would legalize ADU's statewide and allow for multifamily residential in commercial districts and w/in 1/4 mile of rail stations. Passed the house 50-10. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
13.03.2025 16:44 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0HB325 is a middle housing construction tax credit. It would provide around $10k sales tax reduction for new homes built below the FHA price limits. This would offset our unusual tax structure on construction and move bigger projects that are on the fence financially. www.nmlegis.gov/Legislation/...
