Last number I saw was about 1200 people arrested by ICE under Trump’s new orders. I’m curious about the breakdown of those people. How many were from central or South America? How many were from European countries, etc.

The industry preys on families and pregnant people who are in crisis and commodifies children. Children are priced based on age, gender, race, and health. Many adoptees have literal receipts. Adoption agencies run sales. Adoptees can be returned, resold, or swapped.

This also very much applies to modern day adoption. Georgia Tann turned external care of children in need of homes into what is now a $24.7b/year industry.

Even worse is the fact that the most common reason children are removed from families is due to lack of money and resources. And the system’s solution is to take them, give them to another family, and give *that* family money and resources.

To some. And pissing off others.

Adoption is supposed to be about finding safe, permanent homes for children in need of one, not finding kids for homes.

Since there will be a lot of talk about being grateful over the next few days, here is a reminder that you don’t owe gratefulness to anyone.

I have a polite relationship with my bio sibs but my brother is an ex-marine turned cop and my sister is a transphobe who I know voted for Trump. As much as I want to connect with them, we are fundamentally incompatible. APs are/were even worse.

Got banned from r/adoption for arguing that if agencies break out legal fees separately and still change price based on race, age, gender, health of the child, you don’t get to say you’re only paying for “a service” vs buying a child. 🥚

I still check threads out of habit but holy shit it’s become so bad. Each take is worse than the last there. It’s approaching X levels.

Because I am AsAm and a TRA, most people assume I am a transnational adoptee. But my mother had been here for a few months (not a citizen yet) and I was born here. Always feel awkward being included in transnational convos even tho I had no connection to diaspora growing up. More imposter syndrome 🥚

Journalers / writers, what’s your preferred notebook? I’ve been using cheap $10 ones from Amazon but recently picked up a Leuchtturm 1917 and am kind of disappointed. Love the texture but the paper is so thin that everything shows up on the other side

Just saw an adoptee asking Reddit if they should be concerned. Disappointed at how many people were gaslighting them and pretending it’s a non-issue because they’re adopted.

No matter how well you know an adoptee, if you ask them how they feel about their #adoption there is a very good chance that they will lie to you in some way.

Society does not want to hear us or our stories unless they are happy stories.

And then there’s groups like this. They give up to $30k to people who want to buy a baby but can’t afford one on their own.

There are no children waiting for, or in need of #adoption. There are children in need of safe permanent homes and families.
