If anyone is friends with any Georgian air traffic controllers, buy them a nice bottle of wine. As guardians of pretty much the only narrow gap still available between Europe and Asia that avoids both Iran, the Gulf, Ukraine and Russia, they are under some substantial pressure.

a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people

When the CIA did this to the Senate it was one of the biggest intel scandals of the 21st century. But here it’s not just a huge scandal, it’s dumb: Pam Bondi is so bad at her job she brought the evidence herself to an open congressional hearing. www.theguardian.com/world/2014/j...

Epstein files show art market financialisation in full flow A Black mark on β€˜ChΓ’teau Noir’

Guild member detained by ICE in Minnesota
January 16, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Dylan Manshack, Comms | dmanshack@cwa-union.org | 202-445-4033
Member remains in ICE custody in Texas
MINNEAPOLIS β€” On Friday, January 9, ICE arrested a member of our union, the Minnesota Newspaper and
Communications Guild, TNG-CWA Local 37002, as part of Operation Metro Surge.
While the circumstances of his arrest are not clear, we know he has been transferred to an ICE detention facility
in El Paso, Texas, where he is awaiting action on his petition for habeas corpus.
The Guild is not publicly identifying the member out of concern for his family’s safety, but he is a father, a
husband, and a staff member at a Minneapolis non-profit organization. He is a steward in our union and an
advocate for all workers. And he is one of dozens of Minnesota union members who have been detained in
recent weeks.
The Department of Homeland Security says it has made more than 2,000 arrests since the surge began in
December, according to an MPR News report. But the agency has not provided details about the people
arrested, such as how many were charged with a crime, how many face deportation, and how many were
subsequently released.
β€œThe Minnesota Newspaper and Communications Guild stands with our member and his family as they face an
uncertainty that is all too common in our state right now,” local president Nick Woltman said. β€œLike all
Minnesota workers, our members deserve to feel safe in their communities both on and off the job.”
β€œThe detention of a Guild member in Minnesota amidst the chaos created by DHS is heartbreaking and
infuriating,” said NewsGuild-CWA President Jon Schleuss. β€œMy heart goes out to his family, who are now
without their father and husband. As a union, we commit to fight for each other as stewards of our
communitiesβ€”especially in times as dark as this, while federal agents continue to target working families.”

If Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, that's it for me.
I've spent the last week checking on my neighbors, engaging with my city, my local police, everyone. I've supported my friends and family, made sure they knew they weren't alone in their feelings of hopelessness, powerlessness. I've called and emailed my representatives, demanding answers, demanding action. I've just been overcome with this overwhelming, almost primal need to care for and support my community.

If Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, and soldiers take to our streets, then that tears it for me. My son just turned 1yr. I've done my best to be a helper, so that I can still be around to support him and spend time with him.

But if I have to STAND OUTSIDE in the FREEZING COLD and get the SHIT KICKED OUT OF ME by the people who are supposed to be protecting me, if I have to do that to fight for goodness, and righteousness, and justice, then that's what I'm gonna fucking do. I'm going to do it because this is not the future I want for my son.

If you've been out on the streets, and you're tired, and you're hurting, don't worry. Rest when you need to. Because I know my home and I know my neighbors. When you need to rest, two more will replace you. I will be one of them.

This is my home. Minneapolis is not going to quit. Minnesota is not going to quit. And FUCK EVERYONE who tries to come in here and take from us the PRIDE, LOVE, and COMMUNITY we've built.

As long as I can stand, I'm going to plant my two feet between the oppressors and the home I love.

I love you all. L'etoile du Nord.

Lewiston is home to a large Somali-American population, which made up 4.6% of the population as of the 2020 census.
