Crucially, the findings highlight that parents’ behaviours play a more significant role in determining children’s exposure levels than the children’s own choices.

In contrast, levels during school hours and commutes were lower and more stable, with occasional spikes, for instance, during walks (depending on the route) or when exposed to second-hand smoke from adult smoking in cars.

Home environments exhibited the highest and most variable PM2.5 levels, linked to indoor sources such as wood burners and adult smoking reported by the participating students.

The placement of sensors within households also significantly influenced exposure measurements.

A rare foray into the wild for me.

It was a privilege to speak at the @publicmap.bsky.social on inclusive public engagement with the title “Whose voices matter?”

I know we’re not disembodied voices. I’m still wondering what I could have used as a more accurate title. Maybe insights? Or knowledge?

Our project is rooted in Cymru. The idea stemmed from our wonderful colleagues at Cyngor Ynys Môn and further developed with them.

There’s a reason why the island is known as Gwlad y Medra and is the perfect place to pilot our innovative approaches.
