hiroshima wasn't a purely civilian target, it was a major military hub and its military assets were mostly untouched by previously allied bombing. even so, i don't think the moral arguments around the validity of allied bombing in WWII can be solved by discussing intentions rather than consequences

absolutely. i just noticed that the same attitude toward the nukes tended to diffuse into all of the bombing of japan, to the point where internet opinions slowly coalesced into "fuck the germans lol" about dresden but "evil inexcusable war crimes" about the US bombing of japan

oh i am absolutely 100% talking about half literate social media takes on the war! actual learned and nuanced opinions on WWII are aplenty but are rarely found on bluesky or (god forbid) twitter
