I don't expect a handout, but I do expect the various levels of government to pull in the same direction. I see Industry ministers chiding BCGOV and all I can think of is "fuck you, pay me" and "put up or shut up" some fed $$ would go a LONG way towards a domestic contract, is all I'm saying.

I still don't have a family physician, and I've basically given up on ever having one. I expect to die of a preventive disease due to a lack of diagnosis. Costs are fucking everything. No one can afford anything. Rent is 60% of salary. Fun times we love in.

All while a history of ferry procurement taking down provincial governments exists. I wonder if we'll see the same thing here? Imo, Eby's govt hangs on how well it handles domestic issues - healthcare & housing. No one cares about the ferries, it's a shit situation but il y a bigger fish to fry

What I referenced earlier about PEI is that they actually have a ferry service as well, but it's run by the feds and they carry the capital costs for the ferry fleet. It's just astounding to me, the contrast. In the BC case, feds instead straddles bc gov with debt (they did offer a loan!)

If the feds would stand up, just once and put some infrastructure money towards the large capital costs for ferries we all know are coming, every few decades. Make the money contingent on domestic production. Boom, I fixed it for you.

Anyway, tying this back to the current events, it seems wild to me that the BCGOV has again let blind procurement rules dictate a ship building contract going to a foreign ship builder.

I was just a kid at the time, grade 5 if memory serves correct, but I remember the colossal land slide that resulted from the election. Provincial NDP didn't even get enough seats to warrant official party status.

In the fast cat case, the plans and requirements were so advanced that it immediately precluded any domestic ship builder. These things were billed as fast with little environmental impact. Neither were true, and they never saw proper service. Also exceeding expensive.

The purchase of ferries is not a new thing in BC. I remember when the "fast cat" ferry scandal took down the NDP government in 1996.

There are two unequal sides , provinces , in the Canadian equation.

One side has for years received subsidized ferry procurement - Prince Edward Island. And one is left to fend for itself - British Columbia.

It's so interesting the contrast. If you read local news in Victoria, you'd almost be convinced that junkies around ever corner will gank you in downtown Victoria. Then you walk down Government St and there are 100s if not 1000s of tourists without a care in the world.

If where that money flows has defined requirements -- like needing to house, feed & provide sustinence to any/all -- put those things together brother you've got a stew brewin.

I'm goin down so many tangents here, I had a couple other thoughts about money... I think one main thing is being able to borrow against stocks for a tax free income. That shouldn't be possible. Do that and the 90% tax thing.

Everyone, even the goose-stepping ignorant psychopaths, deserve fair treatment under the law... But, like, can't we just space them if they're actively trying to destroy the community?

I'd love to be able to just say "just don't be a dick, get exiled bro" But that's just not realistic, and concepts of law , order & justice DO need to exist.

I'm sure both checks & balances can result "bug free" construct of the law ... But it's an endless battle with threat actors that seek to exploit weakness and excert power.
