I make it sound like it wasn't but overall it was very much a team effort between the two of us. I'm just highlighting specific things I recall about the sessions - out of context at that.

22.06.2025 03:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0you may think Seasons being a song he wrote & being very shoegaze production he had a significant say in how it was mixed, but actually a lot of it was my ideas when I was working with the sessions.
conversely Palindromes sounds more like my mixing but it was actually him making most decisions.
the way we did the production together usually consisted of him handling physical/audio engineering tasks like mic placement/choices and how we handled multi-tracking while I was the one in charge of mixing and mastering.
But Jimmy & Nathan had a say for these things as well, really.
co-producing the album with Dylan was very fun overall. He wasn't present for all of the sessions but he was there for most of them. I think it was Poindexter, Petrichor, Surf Song, Snow Angel, KtS and the single version of Art that I was flying solo and he went and overdubbed his parts later.
22.06.2025 03:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0in general the debut had some bad timing. Dylan announced he was moving like a month after the album came out. We never really got a chance to promote it heavily. this year was supposed to be a state-wide tour for the album, but that never wound up happening.
22.06.2025 03:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0a lot of that is because we waited too long to finance the debut getting physical pressings done. Half of the band involved with the album have now left it. I would rather not fund any of it completely on my own. it's a difficult situation for sure.
22.06.2025 02:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Jennifer (my wife, the photographer of the shoot) took a lot of photos during that session that has Elise showing her face. maybe we'll use some of those for any inner/back artwork for a physical release of the album ......if that ever actually comes to be. as of right now it's unlikely.
22.06.2025 02:57 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0shooting the album cover was very fun. The basic idea for the shoot was mine, I even scouted for the location (it was this beautiful park with a waterfall in the city I live in).
I always felt bad the model has her faced turned away from the camera. she was a friend of Jimmy's named Elise.
I wouldn't rule out the possibility of bringing back a verse and/or a chorus for a medley down the line, but for now it's pretty much retired and I can guarantee that.
22.06.2025 02:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0if you've heard us play live back in our original formation or have listened to the debut record and enjoy Poindexter, then I'm sorry that you'll basically never hear it played live ever again lol. But I have to stick to my principles on this one, and I fucking hate that song!!!
22.06.2025 02:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0as a song I think it's OK and generally it isn't the worst thing but it's such a tongue-in-cheek lame track, it's pretty basic, it doesn't really sound like us even at the time. It came from an early desire for us to be a glam-psych band instead of the psych-prog band we're morphing into.
22.06.2025 02:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0for some reason the college kids that enjoyed watching us in concert really liked Poindexter for some reason. I hate that song. we're probably never playing it live ever again.
22.06.2025 02:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0afaik (and you'll have to ask the other three to be positive), everything else on the album was written in 2023; not counting the re-writes to Deep Dream which were written toward the end of the album sessions in 2024.
22.06.2025 02:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0followed by that, The Art of Giving Up was originally written & released as a solo song by me in 2019.
I started writing Poindexter in 2020 but I didn't finish it until 2023 when we started playing it live. really until then it was just the chorus. Everything else was written for it in 2023 lol
the oldest track on the debut is Deep Dream. I originally wrote (an early version of) it in late 2015. which means it's almost 10 years old! It was for an earlier prog band I was in as a young adult.
the old version was really bad and I restructured the song significantly for us to play.
β’ "Snow Angel" is pretty much all Jimmy except for the bridge. He wanted a bridge but couldn't come up with one. I wrote it and the vocal melody then he supplied new lyrics for it. other than that it's all him - he even plays the acoustic on it!
22.06.2025 02:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0β’ "Surf Song" started out as a jam before we even found a drummer in early 2023. I think Nathan came up with the riff on bass and then Dylan wrote the guitar intro at some point. I came up with the chorus + the general idea for the bridge.
22.06.2025 02:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0CO-WRITING TRIVIA (s/t debut edition):
β’ "Kill the Sunshine" is mostly a composition by me. Jimmy's co-write comes from his drum solo. it's fun to have people guess what parts he may or may not have written though
and/or random fun facts and thoughts about our music & process. to an audience of no-one
22.06.2025 02:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0this is the one corner of our socials that Jimmy does not primarily control. therefore I will use it to post absolutely stupid shit to an audience of no-one.
