...yes, & a culture of reading, where everyone from an early age actively engages with reading; reads books, recommends books, talks about ideas in books, is inspired by books, finds some books disturbing & others liberating, etc..
Everyone sitting around reading books rather than social media.

We didnβt dress up for World Book Day. But we did (as we do every day) enjoy books. π π
I had a pupil once - on finishing their maths ask -
βCan we go and enjoy a book now?β
Nurturing a love of reading doesnβt just happen once a year.
It is such a joy to see independent writing developing over the first year of school. Children become writers when they have a desire to write, are taught the tools for writing, feel confident and are given the space to try.

On World Book Day Iβd like simply say that we need more libraries and book swaps. Iβd like to see them everywhere. In every community, shopping centre, school, social club. Wherever we go. And they should be stocked with lots of brand new books as well as old ones.
