For me it was a matter of unengaging material. The first three songs, meh. The last three same. The middle third though was pretty wonderful and just about made up for the rest of it.

I still feel that album was a wee bit of a letdown after so long a wait. The tour, however, was insanely cool to see.

I kinda stopped posting vinyl spins much at all here, since I started tracking them on an app I use that tracks stylus usage, as well. Less engagement but, two birds with one stone. Still see yours, tho. πŸ˜€

That's great. And, I completely agree that Dems can't cater to waffling middling "moderates" who drag Overton windows with them. But, a party that does not hold 50% of the electorate cannot, by definition, win an election without attracting votes of x% of independents. And, neither party has 50%.

Then your soul is in the lost and found - Lawyers, Guns & Money I’m sure many of you are are as sick of this topic as a friend of mine, who responded to some of my musings yesterday with the observation that he β€œpreferred it when Trump wasn’t president so we didn’t have to spend this amount of energy on the interior mental world of a profoundly sick […]

IMHO, new wave didn't *require* keys and just from sound/energy/style, both Boy and October albums definitely fit, and War even sort of fits, somewhat marginally...absolutely nothing afterwards.

That's toooo early for my time zone πŸ˜‰. But I dig Zaremba's show when I'm driving back from weekend shows here, and Manfred is an icon to me, given 30 years of Woggles fanboi-dom

I can't speak to a "British Invasion" SXM station, but Chris Carter's British Invasion is one of the best weekend shows on SXM Channel 21, Little Steven's Underground Garage.

Which, kinda sums up one subset of the enshittification of culture via the tech companies, internet platforms, etc., but I digress...bc of pedantry πŸ˜‰

I wouldn't mind the playlist decisions nearly so much if it didn't reek of revisionist history. Not that I'm thee expert in the issue, but I was there, & new wave comprised the records I was buying from '78-'84, when I was in HS & college and listening to college radio in Austin, Dallas, San Marcos.

23.02.2026 21:25 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Honestly, nothing pisses me off more about that station than when I hear Talking Heads' "Nothing But Flowers", or Orange Crush. That's almost as bad as every time they play Aerosmith or Springsteen on LSUG. But, ya know, backers...

As a garage rock junkie, I usually end up listening to Little Steven's Underground Garage channel, but it also suffers from an often very misguided definition of garage rock. Big fan of Palmyra Delran's trash pop shindig, tho.

That's just it, as far as I know that classic college station is only on the app, we can't listen in our cars. Wife prefers the obv cuts, so she's fine with the status quo (if not The Status Quo).

23.02.2026 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

...but were not on a John Hughes soundtrack or Stranger Things. Also, they include a band's output long after its relevance to "new wave", e.g., any R.E.M. after "Document", Simple Minds by 1985, heck, pretty much anything post 1985. But, "Popular 80s Synth Music" is a horrible channel name.

23.02.2026 15:15 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I *know* this is pedantic, but...SXM's definition of "New Wave" for purposes of that channel (which I do generally like) is way misaligned with what was considered new wave *during that era*. The worst part is that they virtually ignore many actual new wave acts who were well known in the day (1/2)

Much, much smaller ups to those Swedish people who put pickled stuff in bedspreads.

If you ask a Mexican person if the food they're eating is spicy, you cannot trust the answer.

You might hear "a little", "it has spice", or the classic: "No, it's not spicy at all."

For years, I thought this was a national inside joke. The truth is much weirder and retrospectively obvious (1/x)

What a loverly Valentine's Day dinner with my beloved. She took a recipe for Chilli Prawn Linguine with Mango & Ginger, substituted lobstah tail for prawns, added baby broccoli, used thick textured heart-shaped pasta. Soooo good. I made an Asian lime crema sort of dressing for the salad. #cooking

Same here, but my dad's HS has so many famous alumni, there's a Wiki page just for listing famous alumni. (A couple of them are real dickbags, however.) Includes everyone from Ann-Margaret, Charton Heston, Rock Hudson, Bruce Dern, Liz Phair, Rainn Wilson to Donald Rumsfeld, Rahm Emanuel

Tonight's retirement #cooking adventure, baked chicken thighs marinated in green goddess, baked broccoli with parm, drizzled with Meyer lemon oil, cous cous, and slaw. Dang that'll flat git it.

But seriously, how is this anything more than just shitty #BHAFC luck? That was hardly an open header for Mings, just a brutally unlucky OG. We deserved better today.

No idea whether #BHAFC can end up with any points today, but the first 20 minutes, Baleba aside, have been the most vital and energetic the Seagulls have looked all season, and AVL is flustered. Where has *this* team been all year?
