EdWeek came back initially with a 1% annual increase. Our membership—who struggle to afford rent and groceries, who rely on subsidies and second jobs to make ends meet—resoundingly said that this wasn’t good enough. EdWeek moved to 1.5%, before discretionary raises. It still isn’t enough.

Hi! We're the EdWeek Union - roughly 50 people who work tirelessly to make our nonprofit news organization a key destination for educators and the general public. We wanted to share an update on our efforts to bargain with management for a fair contract that protects all of us. 🧵

Kendrick Lamar at the superbowl surrounded by people dressed in red white and blue, standing in the formation of an American flag.
The dancers in red white and blue laying on the stage appearing to be dead bodies.
The visual story telling is so powerful Kendrick is unbelievable. #halftime

Dozens of Head Start Programs Still Aren't Receiving Promised Federal Funds
Some providers of pre-K and child care have waited more than a week for federal reimbursements that typically arrive in 24 hours.
Programs that provide pre-K and day-care services for kids from low-income families aren't receiving federal $$—despite promises from the Trump administration that the funding freeze is no longer in effect and wouldn’t affect Head Start even if it were.

Trump Admin. Lifts Ban on Immigration Arrests at Schools
A new change ends a policy that mostly prohibited agents from making immigration arrests at schools and other spots where children gather.
Trump’s executive actions on immigration go beyond what people are comfortable with, found a recent AP-NORC poll.
While many support increased security at the border, allowing the arrest of people in the country illegally at churches and schools was highly unpopular. www.edweek.org/policy-polit...

Pausing health alerts from the health agencies like the CDC and FDA is reckless.
Health alerts from CDC notify health care providers of new outbreaks, critical medication shortages, etc. FDA alerts share important information about medication safety.
This is outright dangerous.

My introduction to #booksky I guess?
📚 Reading is political
🎧 Audiobooks count as reading
📖 Reading is not a competition
🤔 Reading critically & reading for fun are not mutually exclusive
👉 If you support problematic authors, you deserve to be called out on it
🚫 Toxic positivity can eff off
