The radical right in Britain increasingly claims to represent "Christian values" & "Christian civilisation" - though its leaders rarely go to church or pretend to believe anything.

It's especially important that Christian leaders speak out against this, as it's their tradition that's being claimed.

Roald Dahl's Letter About Losing his Daughter in 1962 " there is today something that parents can do to make sure that this sort of tragedy does not happen to a child of theirs. "

If you are reading your child Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach and the BFG, look at the dedication on the book. The author dedicated both books posthumously to his daughter Olivia who died from complications of measles. He later wrote this letter...

Are you saying that the Tories weren't incompetent enough to totally wreck the project so they should get someone even less competent to run it so that they can waste even more money wrecking it even more?

Part T of the Building Regulations (in England Only) that makes it difficult to provide only universal toilet accommodation in Public Buildings clashes with EHRC guidance. This is only permissible where there is insufficient space or in addition to single sex toilets. Can Greens get it changed?

But Brexit is a past policy - even though its effects are very much with us and still get worse. Remain voters are not likely to support him anyway so little point in attacking him on that. Better to focus on the damage Farage would do in the future if he got into government.

A wetter climate is one of the factors that might be different to our warmer climate in the roman/early medieval period.

I am glad you do but I know some commentators really don't understand that such change is not as simple as they think. We should be piling lots of research and development money into finding ways to make this happen as much as possible.

Yes but, at least in our current climate, much of the land used for livestock will never be suitable for arable farming. There is a reason we graze sheep on our mountains! We have to look at what is possible rather than just look at numbers.

01.02.2025 09:44 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Nor have I seen an assessment of how climate change will affect existing agricultural land uses. Archeological evidence suggests that some of our grassland was used as productive arable when our climate was warmer, but that may not match onto future climate.

01.02.2025 09:37 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The most disappointing aspect is that there is a reduction in arable land as well as grassland. Also there is no mention of agrisolar schemes where both agriculture and solar flourish together.

A modern home in Pacific Palisades survived the fire while all the homes around it burned. It was luck, but also it was made to withstand a wildfire, and it did.

I spoke with the architect who designed it, plus other architects, about designing for disaster: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
