Too often as relationships age, we take them for granted.

Don’t.

To love someone with your whole heart is rare. To live and express that love daily is rarer still.

This is the gift.

May you be blessed enough to experience a love like that.

There will be days when she will once again have the same doubts. Don’t take it personally.

Don’t let her go to sleep wondering if she is loved & valued. Don’t let her start her day without hearing that you love her.

This isn't your job & you will fail if you try.

She doesn’t want you to “fix” her, she wants you to prove that you love her, and that your love is unconditional.

Be patient.
Patience is one sign of selflessness.

Be honest.
Nothing destroys a relationship faster than a lack of honesty. Remember that white lies are still lies.

Be open.
Don’t hide your emotions. Not knowing how you feel fuels doubt & speculation. That won’t help.

But how is this a gift, you ask?

It allows you to learn to love in a way that many don't.

It starts with communication & learning to listen without judgement. One can’t feel heard if no one is listening. Listen unselfishly; to hear, not to construct a response.

The one with abandonment issues may have been deserted or rejected in the past. That trauma is real. It may have healed, but it isn’t forgotten. Do not dismiss or minimize it. Understand that it isn’t about you. It is a self defense mechanism to guard against future hurt.

She has abandonment issues. A glance in a mirror can conjure 1000 scenarios why you will leave her or reject her, even though she knows that you love her.

It can be overwhelming. It can also be a gift.
