You can & should engage across the political divide & go into spaces that are less friendly to your view to engage. That is right & necessary. But it is not good politics to consistently dehumanize your opponents- calling them freaks, morons, and cockroaches. That facilitates the violence you fear.

The issue is that Kirk’s dehumanizing way of speaking about his opponents itself escalated the potential for political violence that you’re concerned about. So to describe that as “exactly right” is contradictory to your point.
