For anyone worried that Mods will be difficult to get running on the Steam Machine with it being Linux, just know that R2modman has a Linux appimage and it works great. Nexus mods is also trying to get their platform fully working on Linux this year apparently.

For how indecisive the Linux community can be, I don't think this is a cut and dry thing.

I think stars need to align, more niche drivers and use cases need support, more PC makers need options for Linux in prebuilds, more accessibility, and probably some more magic from Valve needs to happen.

The Linux community growing is great, but I'm confused when people talk about 'The Year of Linux Desktop'. People speculate that it will happen every year, but no one defines what the threshold is. What all do you think needs to happen for that "Year of Linux" threshold to pass?

Valve's SteamOS is Linux and they have a whole accessibility tab in search. I just feel that if a game says it has 'Narrated Game Menus' for accessibility, it should be considered how the accessibility feature works on Linux, especially when Valve brought and is bringing so many people to Linux.

One game that has a screen reader voice in the game and is fully blind accessible is BROK the InvestiGator made by @cowcatgames.com. You can also turn off the built in one and have the game reach out to a screen reader on your computer. Something to consider.

Games on Linux using proton ATM can't reach out to screen readers. I tested the program NVDA, nothing. I just want to recommend devs normalize having a screen reader built in the game or lines prerecorded from a screen reader or a person, because in game should work on Linux.

Yeah. I want to appreciate how much I can get out of the Deck. I'll still get the Steam Machine for VR, but if VR wasn't something I did, the Steam Deck would be the only PC I need for my use cases. Instead, it'll be the main, because it will get enough function while I prioritize low power draw.

Yeah, it seems like a VR Deck but less powerful. It has enough power to play many VR and flat screen games though. Valve said games have a max of 7 watts TDP

Also, I've tried the theater mode virtual display in Steam VR. You can resize & move it around how you'd like and even orient it to lay down.

The Steam Machine isn't out. My guess is it'll be out in march. PC wise, I've just gotten most everything I want out of the Deck, because I'm not one to play AAA games often. The Steam Machine is going to be 6X more powerful than the Steam Deck. I don't need that kind of power unless I'm playing VR.

Dude, almost everything I'd want in the Steam Machine I can do with a docked Steam Deck. The one thing I'd want it for is as an extension of the Steam Frame VR headset. Other than that, this is my first time using the Deck docked on a big screen, and it's rad as hell.

I could be wrong. I'm sure I remember when I was in the HL2 VR mod, I saw a section for what I added on the Steam Workshop. I think it's worth checking.

When the Steam Deck came out, Steam accounts had to be at least a certain age and every account could only buy one. Scalpers weren't really an issue especially when they only ran out a couple times at the start and restocked pretty quickly. I think Valve will be smart enough to do that again.

Steam doesn't sell on third part retailer sites. It was a placeholder price for a site that marks up refurbished items, and people "leaked" that. Lets all just wait it out, because most likely Valve is still trying to figure out a price because of the ram situation.
