"you must burn children alive because the alternative is to be imprisoned or AWOL" I have lived with two AWOL deserters from two Gulf wars. Both had to negotiate the cash economy for life and have rules for answering the phone, but NEITHER REGRETTED THEIR CHOICE.

I don't mean to pick on this author in particular but the number of times I have been, and seen other people be instructed to ensure moral and physical horrors because "those are the rules" specifically by people with no concept of what that horror truly is...

Reminding anyone who needs to hear it: most of these folks are dual nationals, and if they make it to the states will be called "refugees" and face the same anti-Muslim anti-"immigrant" racism that other people fleeing MENA face.
