It was a pleasure to welcome Leonardo Pérez Barría to the Archives recently - the Curator of the Museo Regional de Aysén , Patagonia, Chile. He came to Bangor University to study the archival material that we hold in relation to the establishment of a Welsh Colony in South America.

Well, the Bangor History Festival was a fabulous success with talks & walking tours all very well attended. So many of you visited the archives, a great opportunity to showcase a selection of items from our collections. Thanks to Luke for helping & to Iwan & team for organising such a great event

Yesterday we displayed items from the Elsi Eldridge (wife of the poet RS Thomas) collection to members of the Contemporary Art Society for Wales with a talk by Prof Tony Brown about the artist.

The Archives supports several research centres at the University including the RS Thomas Research Centre.

#otd in 1893, Saunders Lewis was born in Wallasey, Merseyside. He was a co-founder of Plaid Cymru, and an ardent advocate and campaigner for the Welsh Language playing an instrumental role in the creation of Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Gymraeg (Welsh Language Society).
