A new DP friend asked me if killing my IG acct was 'publicity suicide" and I said I didn't know. Maybe. I shared that I left bc it had been making me depressed for years now + it wasn't a safe space for my Queer friends. My DP/film life is secure. Secure-enough. My painting life got value from IG

I always know when a character is going to get into a car accident because 9x out of 10, one particular camera set up is used. Currently watching "------" and yep, he gets hit by a car. Cracks me up.

SO good!

Acting also gets better as the film progresses. Related: I have a sudden urge to watch #TheOutsiders again.

Film is so much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Lots and lots of split diopter fun which of course make me think of @tvaziri.com. Its a true noir : roof top scenes, underground tunnel / water scenes. Alas no femme fatale, but visually it scratches my noir itch.

The cinematography is pretty pedestrian until the sht goes down, then I love it. Reminds me how I (a lot of us) used to like lighting night exteriors a long time ago. Loved hard light. Neo-noir was all the rage. Kids these days don't know about shooting T200 at night.

This evening watching #JudgmentNight (1993) directed by Stephen Hopkins. On Criterion. Cast: Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr, Denis Leary, Stephen Dorff and Jeremy Piven. I think its a "happens in one night" thriller. Shot in Chicago. #nfotd.

Shooting 35mm is humbling. In my head, I had just taken the greatest photo of all time. ALL. TIME. And then I get back my scans and uh - nope. Part of the "issue" is I love a slow shutter and narrow DOF, when the combo works it makes me so happy. No risk, no reward. But often its "artsy"

Totally enjoyed.
