Markey reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the disability community and all its members, ensuring that millions of people who rely on Medicaid aren't thrown off so that Republicans can line the pockets of their billionaire friends.

We are lucky to be in this fight alongside him!

Our chair, @somesaylezzels.bsky.social just got off a call with @edmarkey.bsky.social & other organizers.

Sen Markey & her spoke about the importance of protecting Medicaid & Social Security, & also about the attacks on trans and disabled people.

We are lucky to have Markey as such a strong ally!

Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:

This Executive Order is not a direct attack on Marbury v. Madison and SCOTUS;

it IS a direct attack on the 19 independent federal regulatory agencies, including financial regulators: SEC, FDIC, CFTC, CFPB, NCUA, FHFA, OCC and much of the Fed.

It's the next step in Musk making X everyone's bank.

The 19th Explains: How Medicaid helps mothers, caregivers and children The popular public health care program for low-income Americans covers nearly half of all births in America. Almost half of the nation’s children are also enrolled in the program.

As the future of Medicaid funding continues to be a part of the national conversation, here’s what you need to know about how it currently ensures quality health and long-term care for large swaths of people.

"Trans and disability rights are intertwined. We can't focus on saving 504 without also realizing this attack is also on existence and acceptance of trans/non-binary people.

The only way we can liberate ourselves is striving to liberate everyone."

Suit over gender dysphoria could dismantle new disability rules Texas and its GOP allies are β€œutilizing LGBTQ issues as a wedge,” civil rights advocates warn.

β€œThey’re utilizing LGBTQ issues as a wedge. The [504] attack is really about the regulatory process of the federal government, and this will impact almost every interaction that a disabled person has with the services and supports that they receive.” www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Support the YDA Disability Caucus! I am supporting young disabled people, will you join me? Every donation helps young people advocate for disability justice, inclusion, and involvement.

We are incredibly angered by X, which has blocked our donation page.

Donations are so vital to our caucus so we can afford CART, ASL interpreters, programming, and so much more.

This is such a huge hit to us seeing as we interact w/ a lot of our donors on Twitter.

Want to help us? Donate here:

Want to honor their legacy? Support intersectional organizing. Fight for disability justice, racial justice, and economic justiceβ€”because they’re all connected. Call out politicians who gut programs while giving tax breaks to the rich. Support mutual aid. Organize. (13/13)

As politicians gut social programs and ignore the needs of disabled people, we have to ask: Who is stepping up? The Panthers taught us that real power comes from communities taking care of each other. That’s the model we need now.

Disability justice doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s rooted in the radical activism of Black, Indigenous, and POC-led movements. The fight against ableism is a fight against white supremacy, capitalism, and systemic neglect. And that’s a fight the Panthers understood.

(11/13)

10.02.2025 21:23 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The lessons from the Black Panthers are more relevant than ever: mutual aid, direct action, and cross-movement solidarity are necessary for survival.

The next time you hear about Section 504, ADA, or disability rights, remember that it took a cross-movement coalition to make it happen. & the Black Panthers were a crucial part of that history.

More important than ever to remember as Trump continues to attack our communities relentlessly (9/13)

And we are fighting harder now than ever. The same systems that targeted the Panthers are still harming marginalized communities today. We are watching unprecedented attacks on the Black, brown, indigenous, trans, queer, disability, immigrant etc. communities, and we need to stand together.

The Panthers’ Free Breakfast Program, community clinics, and mutual aid efforts were disability justice in action. They understood that access to food, healthcare, and dignity weren’t privileges but rightsβ€”something disabled activists continue to fight for today.

The disability rights movement wasn’t just helped by the Panthers. It was shaped by their radical approach to community care. Disability justiceβ€”coined later by Black and brown disabled activistsβ€”builds on the same principles the Panthers put into practice.

This wasn’t an accidentβ€”it was part of the Panthers’ broader commitment to intersectional liberation. They saw the fight for disability rights as connected to their own struggle against racism and state violence. Solidarity wasn’t just a conceptβ€”it was action.

Driven by Brad Lomax, The Black Panthers cooked and delivered hot meals to the disabled protesters every single day. Many of the demonstrators had mobility, sensory, and health-related disabilities, making access to food a challenge. The Panthers stepped in where the government failed.

But what kept that sit-in going for 26 days? Community solidarity. And no group showed up harder than the Black Panther Party, especially Brad Lomax, a disabled Black Panther wheelchair user.

In 1977, disabled activists staged a sit-in at a federal building in San Francisco to demand the signing of regulations for Section 504, which banned disability discrimination in federally funded programs. ✨It was the longest occupation of a federal building in U.S. history.✨ (2/13)

Disabled Black History:

When we talk about the fight for disability rights, we have to talk about the Black Panthers. Without them, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Actβ€”the first federal civil rights protection for disabled peopleβ€”might never have been implemented. 🧡 (1/13)
