So, I'm going to say Mafuyu is mixed enough between J and P that it's most accurate to give this category an X.

This makes the final result INTX.

If I remember correctly, even if she was probably thinking about it beforehand, the actual moment when she runs away from home comes across as a little impulsive. She doesn't have a suitcase packed or anything- she just leaves. (In the event that goes with "Engeki")

or deciding last minute to go with N25 to the amusement park instead of taking her cram school mock exam (I think). I also think this is the event that goes with "Bug."

When Mafuyu is unmasked around N25, however, we see evidence of go-with-the-flow, in the moment behavior. A good early on example is Mafuyu suddenly wandering off to look at the sakura tree at the end of the mystery tour in Secret Distance,

Someone who listens to their feelings when making decisions would not be so easily swayed by the whims of others and led down a career path they do not want. Mafuyu's story is actually a very good explanation of the weaknesses of the Thinking dominant type, bc even though on paper it sounds better

This is where I lost my mind because in what universe is Mafuyu Feeling. Are we being so forreal right now. ENA is Feeling, okay? Mafuyu does not know wtf a feeling is. All her decisions are based on logical processes and she completely ignores how it makes her feel. This is like, the whole point.

The third letter is T or F, Thinking or Feeling, in terms of how a person primarily makes their decisions or how they instinctively want to make decisions- based on logical thought or their emotions.

The second letter is N or S, Intuitive or Observant. N is fine, I agree with that. This dichotomy is more confusing, but its essentially N as overthinking & theorizing, and S as in-the-moment, hands on, lets do something already and stop thinking about it. I could also see Mafuyu being mixed here.

I'm going to say that Mafuyu, who is chronically burnt out from talking to people at school all day every day and pretending she likes talking to people, is an Introvert. Do not be fooled by how often she talks to people and miss how exhausting it is for her.

The first letter of this 4 letter "16 personalities" model is either I or E, Introvert or Extrovert. If any letter dichotomy in this model is nearly 50/50 in an individual's personality, an X is sometimes used to represent this even split.

Okay tumbl just recommended a post to me against my will that offhandedly said Mafuyu's personality type is XNFJ in a way that makes it seem like they got the info from another source and I need to explain in detail why I think this is wrong before I blow a gasket.
