PTSD Awareness Month — It’s more than ‘burnout’ medium.com/p/ptsd-aware...
**No paywall for this article**
Mental Health Awareness Month this year inspired me to be a bit more vulnerable and share aspects of my story that I live with in relative silence - I hope in sharing, these videos will help others reclaim their voice and recovery, too. 💖 youtu.be/x0GVIvt6txg?...
It's great to meet you! I found you from Twitter... I also don't call it X. I transitioned from surgery to oral med and am not in grad school to be a therapist after learning how to work with (rather against) neurodivergent superpowers.
It's nice to meet you! I look forward to learning more!
It's important to share our stories on the other side of darkness. Similar to vicarious trauma, we may experience vicarious hope.
I borrowed hope from others when I lost my own. I am alive because of it and regained meaning in life after years being without.
Spotlight effect - we thinks others are judging us more than they are.
Liking gap - we underappreciate just how much people like us after engagements.
Our brains have biases. You are doing better than you think.
Keep showing up and being you. You matter. 💗

How I Deal with Comments that Trigger Anorexia
youtu.be/FnNLqzc5I1A?...
I live with anorexia, but I am not “anorexic.”
When the ED is your identity, it’s harder to free yourself.
Language matters.
One of the worst things you can say to someone living with anorexia is "You don't look anorexic."
Despite the stereotypically portrayed frail white woman with AN- many (of all races and genders) are suffering without appearing ill. AN thrives on invalidation- don't fuel it.
As a doctor with anorexia - I am on a mission to help improve care and advocate for others.
Too often, people (even my own doctor) say that they wish they had my problem. No, no you don't.
What I Lost Because of Anorexia Beyond Just Weight youtu.be/6WScw9T3hyQ?... via @YouTube
Being an adult doesn't have to be boring and colorless.
I fit in... Wore the black suit. Played the part. Acted more like the men around me.
And then I broke free.
If you're ready to stop fitting in boxes that weren't made for you- Buckle up, I'll help you navigate.
If you or a loved one needs acute care due to an eating disorder, inpatient care may be life saving.
My time inpatient saved my physical body, and left me with a lot of thoughts on how we may improve inpatient care for patients.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
I've decided to share a bit more about my story in hopes it may help others. 💓 I hope you may find value and share with anyone else who may benefit.

We fear other people's opinions, and we often neglect our own.
YOUR opinion about what you pursue in life matters the most.
Learning to love yourself right now... Not "when..."
That's reclaiming your power.

Fear of Other People's Opinions Nearly Killed Me - Here's what freed me
www.jillianrigertcoaching.com/post/fear-of...
Here's the deal... people really aren't thinking about you as much as you think that they are.
They are thinking about themselves.
Use that information to your advantage by focusing on what matters most to you- not what you think you need to do for others' approval.

After losing my other dog this week, I took the whole day off to celebrate Reesey-Poop's birthday.
The regret of not being there for a loved one days before he died and nearly dying myself taught me to be extra with what matters most.
What would you win this award for?
You can live a rich life without a high income.. and you can live in scarcity and lack with a high income. Your income isn't a direct correlate with your networth or how rich your life feels.

Anorexia nervosa is very fascinating to live with.
It tells me what you all care what I weigh and what size I wear, yet really no one knows nor cares.. and if they do care about my body size, it has more to say about them than me.
Yet, knowing this doesn't quiet or cure AN.
Thank you so much!
