26.11.2025 19:35 β π 16 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0I hear you, but "No Kings" isn't the name of a movement; it's just a hashtag for a couple high-profile days of protests. The groups that have organized those protests, both nationally & locally, are all engaged on multiple fronts--immigrant defense, electoral, town halls, etc.
25.11.2025 15:35 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And similar energy at the grassroots. Big tent for sure (my Indivisible group has a minority pro-Schumer camp), but lots of righteous anger. And the newly activated people skew, if anything, toward the more ambitious goals
25.11.2025 15:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fair enough. But that was produced by coalition of 200(?) national organizations, obviously trying to appeal to big tent. Leadership of one of the key orgs (Indivisible) has been loudly calling on Schumer to step down all year, not to mention vocally pro-BLM, pro-Gaza protests, anti-ICE, etc.
25.11.2025 15:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I study courts, not protests, so take all this with a grain of salt. We need organizing against autocratization by people of all ages. But it's not a contest between generational cohorts, and on the ground, there is more cross-generational interaction than you might think
25.11.2025 15:23 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Given grassroots organizational dynamics, protests organized primarily by Indivisibles are always going to skew old. But Trump 1.0 witnessed lots of protests organized by Gen Z (March 4 Our Lives, BLM), as did Biden era (Gaza). Seems likely youth protests will emerge in Trump 2.0 as well
25.11.2025 15:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Rallies, town halls, etc. organized primarily by Indivisible groups skewed old and white during Trump 1.0, but at least here in CNY, these newly activated old, white women participated in droves in 2000 BLM protests and helped found immigrant defense networks
25.11.2025 15:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Normie resistance organizing by groups like Indivisible has mobilized millions of previously inactive Americans. These groups have skewed old, white, and female from the beginning, but they have repeatedly engaged with/supported parallel organizing by groups that are younger and less white
25.11.2025 15:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I know the headline isn't Nyhan's fault and I mostly agree with the piece, but I do think it misses a key development that I've witnessed countless times at the grassroots during both Trump 1.0 and 2.0
25.11.2025 15:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think this misreads the vibes inside No Kings organizing. Both at the grassroots and nationally, No Kings folks are ready to burn shit down. Like full-on, righteous anger at the system, including the leadership of both major parties
Also this whole thread is Gen-X erasure lol
This is the more optimistic flip side of @brendannyhan.bsky.socialβs op-ed: Why are old suburban white people protesting at historically high rates?
25.11.2025 13:58 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Really nice new paper from Schickler, offering a concise account of what the first year of Trump 2.0 has taught us about U.S. political institutions. I'm thinking of using it at the start of my grad seminar on American constitutional development in January academic.oup.com/psq/advance-...

Read on my 17yoβs recommendation. Nice change of pace. Reminded me of High Fidelity. Much more interior than everything else Iβve been reading. Though it kept driving me crazy that Andy and Jenβs communication was so bad
Iβve read a lot of takes on the shutdown cave, but this one is really important

12.11.2025 16:48 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Yes but note they examine only placement at PhD granting institutions. There are lots of high quality tenure track jobs at other institutions. The job market is still terrible, but not as bad as it sounds in this piece
11.11.2025 18:59 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No idea, but KBJ makes it sound like itβll be no more than a couple days. At which point the administration will then have 48 hours to bring it back to SCOTUS. At which point, G-d help us
