Even if you do not create/consume/like NSFW media you must speak up for SWs and NSFW creators b/c the criminalizing and banning of it is just another step towards fascism. It will be used to target minority groups, LGBT, etc. and anything deemed "unsanitary" or "degenerate".

Definitely! And the computer access back-up option is a good point. I worry about leaving our tiktok account up without being able to moderate comments and such, but I guess I could do that via browser!

Civil rights were won through protests and lawsuits and literally fighting back. We are not in unprecedented times. We are in a horrible reboot of Reconstruction. Fight in every way possible. Flood those anti DEI tiplines with misinformation, spend 10 minutes every day telling your reps to stop this

and definitely the loss of community makes it hard to leave! selfishly, tiktok has always been our biggest social media audience, which is very hard to walk away from. no other app compares to the specificity and success of the fyp for me as both a creator and user!

yeah, that message is/was also a strong motivator to delete. also so valid about this week. 🫠

thinking very seriously about deleting tiktok off my phone, knowing i can't get it back in the us, for the sake of my mental health.

is anyone else off the app since the blip and willing to share their experience? do you miss it?

it's funny goofy haha and goes into all the gory details of the genre but also talks about the history of censorship in fandom spaces and how queer subgenres like the omegaverse have managed to survive and thrive despite it all

idk if this helps or not, but i live around DC. there are 700,000 people who live here (without state representation, but i digress). DC fucking HATES trump. if his first term was any indication, he will be constantly surrounded by people who make his life worse in every little way they can, lol

Don't let Donald Trump extending the TikTok ban distract you from the fact that his Administration is about to conduct mass deportations across America in a matter of days.

if you are a fellow Fandom Old who lived through the strikethroughs and ff.net purges, you should be able to understand why the tiktok ban is upsetting for so many people, especially the queer and neurodivergent folk who found community there.

My online presence has really shrunk to a single site in the past year because of reasons, and I never got into TikTok. But I remember the loss of Geocities, and shifts of other platforms that left them uninviting or useless.

TikTok being banned is bigger and worse than those.

i'm blocking anyone who posts anything akin to "I never cared about tiktok anyway!" or "lol at all the kids crying over tiktok"

this ban is a very telling canary in the coal mine. take your self-aggrandizing bullshit elsewhere.

I’m upset about TikTok for two reasons:

1. A lot of talented people have temporarily, maybe permanently, lost their creative livelihoods

2. The government now has strong precedent that they can destroy any company simply because they don’t like it, even if it involves curtailing speech
