I can probably keep track of the news and be an informed citizen without immersing myself in it all day. Who knows, maybe with some extra cycles I can focus on my health.

We catastrophize the harm SO much, because that’s how we get willful offenders to stop, and it’s how we show our support for those hurt by it — both laudable motivations.

But I don’t think those goals are hindered if we have patience for the rare singular case where there is clearly more going on.

People sometimes treat being horrified and offended like it is a one-way trip that you can’t come back from.

I feel like there has to be room to have all those legitimate reactions, and then learn more context, and go, “Oh, I see why that happened, and I understand it.”

Also, what was the trauma, for the husband? Witnessing a pee? Or witnessing a person in dire straits that he didn’t know how to help?

If the latter, “toughen up” is the stupidest response. Toughening up against THAT is how you get conservatives.

Also ... I think the irony went WILDLY over their head.
