As Canadians, we like to think weโre strong and free. But, when it comes to the wealth gap, weโre looking more like America Liteโbetter manners, but almost all the inequality.

For anyone familiar with Orwellโs book, Animal Farm, the key word in this sentence is the first one. Will โsomeโ gradually become โfewโ and eventually, heaven forbid, โnoโ?

Why do headlines say "norms shattered" when what is meant is "laws broken" or "Constitution violated"?

Screenshot of various book covers of How Ottawa Spends, edited by Carleton's School of Public Policy and Administration between 1981 and 2019
How Ottawa Spends was such an incredibly useful annual book series, first published in 1981. It's really sad that Carleton's School of Public Policy and Administration phased it out in 2019.
I still use it frequently, but how nice would it be to have editions covering developments since 2019.

Look for what the first Carney budget contains and how it is received by Canadians, how the Conservatives respond, and how the NDP leadership candidates perform, and then watch what subsequent polls reveal in shiftsโฆ
