Why are you surprised? They've been doing that since Windows 95.

just became aware of this--the regime wants to clear-cut massive chunks of Oregon's old growth forests in the name of timber production.

you have until March 23rd to comment.

i know we have endless fucking things to scream at politicians about--this is an important one too.

This was Ike as President (his first major speech, in fact), but just gonna say: Eisenhower not beating the allegations of being the United States' greatest general on this one.

Fitting that we got one verifiable Military Genius and he was the Divine Spirit of Logistics and Diplomacy guy.

Never ceases to amaze me how much pushback I get when I observe that people's votes are reflections of their values. People vote for the policy outcomes they prefer! Those preferences are downstream of their values.

Australia Did It on Steam Join our mercenary team: high-risk, low-benefit positions available! Defend cargo trains in this innovative Turn-Based Tower Defense meets Reverse Bullet Hell. Deploy units, merge them to create power...

It's cool to see a return to multi-style games! Australia Did It alternates between tower defense and reverse bullet hell.

I like the unit merging mechanic, especially given the overall structure, but accidentally leaving a unit behind is harrowing πŸ˜…

Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post offering β€œfinancial runway." This month it gutted its newsroomβ€”more than 300 layoffs.

Whatever you think of legacy news, the hard data shows us that newspaper closures hurt Americans. Here's how: 🧡

I find I am honestly unsure what the long term implications are of the United States demonstrating twice in three months that its new preferred way of war is to engage in bolt-from-the-blue decapitation strikes with no obvious follow-up plan.

My instinct is that it will not turn out well.

The entire millennial identity is being prepared and groomed for a version of the world that stopped existing by the time we reached it

we slammed into a horizon painted on a brick wall like fucking looney tunes

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

The near-total memory-holing of Trump’s disastrous withdrawal from the JCPOA - literally, the central reason why Iran & nuclear weapons is still an issue in 2026 - from the National Conversationℒ️ is incredible, & not in a good way. The β€œbetter deal” never existed & still doesn’t. And here are.

I know this feels pointless but everyone has to call their congressional reps and say they oppose war with Iran and they oppose Trump illegally starting one without congressional approval β€” both

5 Calls can help you make the call:

Rep. Green brought articles of impeachment against Trump for his unilateral strikes on Iran back in June of 2025. Congress voted to table that resolution. So here we are, 8 months later, murdering schoolchildren.

Congress's refusal to act murders people. Replace them all.

Sam Altman just said, "yeah. Go ahead. We need the money because our shit is only fooling me." And now bombs are hitting schools on bad Intel. We got Cyberdyne, but from Temu.

When I went to Tehran in 2018 for a game conference I hung out with game nerds, music weirdos, and queer folks with tattoos and colored hair, just like I do here. We got vegetarian food and watched goofy uncles play basketball in the park. I sure hope they can live to see a better day.

Do you level up by killing enemies? If so, it's a safety to allow players to catch up to the requisite level.

Also ensures consistency. Getting from save point A to save point B consists of overcoming a specific set of obstacles *every time.*

Expedition 33 comes to mind. It uses a Dark Souls style setup, where your hp and restoration items refresh at every save point. You also use action points rather than mp, and the dodge and parry systems mean you can avoid damage through skilled play.

Ironic, given the framing!

Most RPGs, mechanically, have a strong resource attrition layer:
Can you get through the dungeon before your mana runs out. Can you keep health full long enough to get to, and beat, the boss.

As a result most players care a lot about building a self-sustaining resource engine for their parties

As a media and culture scholar, this is the part of the Paramount-WB News that I wish we saw more of. At a basic level, artists and creators will lose more places to pitch ideas and tell stories to a mass audience w/ funding

That means fewer types of stories and less of challenging ideas get out
