1. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that under a new deal with Scouting America, formerly Boy Scouts of America, trans scouts will be forcibly outed and segregated from peers of their gender.
The policy is the latest cruel capitulation.

Is the @ec.europa.eu in a toxic relationship with big polluters?
Our latest analysis by @silviap.bsky.social reveals a striking pattern: the petrochemical industryβs private "wishlist" is becoming Europe's political reality. Progress is moving in reverse β¬οΈ[1/5]
We tracked the shift over the last two years.
Industry demands for βcompetitivenessβ are being copy-pasted into high-level strategy.
The result? A political reality where economic growth is being used as an excuse to gamble with our health and the environment. β¬οΈ[2/5]
This isn't just theory, itβs happening through "fast-track" laws.
By bundling dozens of changes into massive legislative packages, the European Commission is bypassing the deep scrutiny these rules deserve. Itβs a quiet rollback of protections we fought decades to win. β¬οΈ[3/5]
I mute tedious/overly familiar and block anything above that. I also only allow replies from people who follow me, because that usually means they understand what I'm generally about and are less likely to wildly misinterpret me. No more "ending up in the Discover feed" problems!

After the arrests of powerful men across the world, you might be asking why the US has so much trouble holding its leaders accountable for lawbreaking. Since Nixon, all three branches of government have worked hard to ensure they can break the law with impunity www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

28.01.2026 14:46 β π 29 π 23 π¬ 2 π 1It is difficult to overstate how quickly & thoroughly & shamefully we have normalized βthe president can use federal funding as a cudgel to punish blue states & only blue states on his whimβ in our polity & society. 26.02.2026 12:52 β π 777 π 225 π¬ 3 π 6I have said this before, but eliminating programs that teach a lot of students but donβt have many majors is like a restaurant not buying flour in its grocery delivery because people arenβt ordering flour on the menu.

They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. I was literally teaching Sara Ahmedβs work on how the whiteness of institutions is a result of a series of decisions about the allocation of resources, who to recruit, what to prioritize.
The values of an institution are most clearly indicated in their budgets.
the "just asking questions" to "legitimate questions about fairness in sports" to "the state doesn't have to consider us as real people" pipeline working exactly as designed.

20.02.2026 14:11 β π 32 π 27 π¬ 2 π 3An official letter from the Kansas Division of Vehicles dated February 23, 2026, with a redacted recipient address. The letter notifies the recipient that due to the enactment of Senate Bill 244, all Kansas driver's licenses and IDs must reflect the holder's sex at birth. It states that the recipient's current credential will become invalid immediately upon the law's publication on February 26, 2026, with no grace period. The recipient is directed to surrender their current ID to receive a new one matching their sex assigned at birth. The document concludes with instructions on how to appeal the notice if received in error, along with contact information for the department.
Kansas is sending letters to trans people telling them that their licenses will be revoked as of tomorrow and that they risk arrest for driving on a suspended license.
This is pure cruelty.

Do you still use 'Sub-Saharan Africa' as a descriptor in your academic work? Here, I argue that "Sub-Saharan Africa" may not be an academically sound geographical inscription. It cannot truly divorce itself from its derogatory origins & may be in need of retirement.
