Nicole Flattery · Oh, My Pearl: Candy Says
Candy Darling was the inspiration for Lou Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’, the Velvet Underground’s ‘Candy Says...
‘At the funeral of Andrea Feldman (a Factory acolyte who had killed herself), Candy Darling asked for Feldman’s fur coat and received a reprimand. “But she doesn’t need it where she is,” Darling protested.’

Learners at 287 South African public schools only have access to pit toilets. 174 of those schools are in the Eastern Cape. The Department of Basic Education had an initial target of supplying all schools with appropriate sanitation by the end of 2016. https://theoutlier.co.za/charts/chart/88628

A photo of Truro cathedral with the caption "Truro Cathedral - how many spires does this cathedral have? Wikipedia and I disagree."
If you look up Truro Cathedral you will ind a number of fun facts. I shall list the chree most commonly shared ones here, in order of truthfulness. The first "fun fact' about Truro Cathedral is that it's the first Anglican Cathedral in England built on a new site since the Reformation. This is true. In fact, it's che first since Salisbury was relocated in 1220, It's our only fully Victorian Cathedral, and that phrase alone should be foreshadowing for regular readers. The second fun fact' about Truro Cathedral is that it is the place where Nine Lessons and Carols was first held. This is true, and also not; in that though the service of Nine Lessons and Carols was invented by the first Bishop of Truro and held in the building serving as the Cathedral at that time, the building in question was a temporary wooden structure they were using as a Pro-Cathedral (the fancy term for a temporary Cathedral), because the actual Cathedral I'm about to show you would, in fact, take another 7 years of construction to be usable The third 'fun fact' about Truro Cathedral is that it's one of three Cathedrals in the UK with three spires. This is bollocks. I have no idea why people say this. There are four spires. I will elaboratre later, but I have become a Spire Trucher. This is my new weird conspiracy theory. Why is the Big Cathedral Spire Lobby trying to keep Truro down and deny her the honour of being a Four Spired Cathedral??? With this all said... let us begin.
saw a balcony in the north west transept when I was looking around earlier. Also these sketchy looking pathways. How am I supposed to resist that?
This text is followed by two images of walkways bridging the corners high up in a cathedral
I hadn't thought much about the concert going on in the nave until this point, but now, I realised there was a problem. I'm here, north side of the great east window. Minding my own business, Enjoying the view.
Followed by an image of the south side of the cathedral from high up.
Then more text:
In the nave? Hundreds of people enjoying a concert.
Then the same photo, but taken at a slight angle to show that the nave of the cathedral is full of people.
I've got a new long read for you, in which I climb Truro Cathedral, turn into a conspiracy theorist about church spires, and try really hard not to interrupt a Christmas carol concert.
It's packed with pretty pictures and you can read the whole thing here: jayhulmepoet.substack.com/p/truro-cath...

Over the past 4–5 years, Facebook has sunset tools (chiefly CrowdTangle) used by researchers and journalists, made data difficult and expensive to get, and iced out academics studying disinformation.
Now, it's shutting down the fact checking on its platform.
