I've looked through the reddit for fun and I would say its 50/50 but you need to know what is good advice.
And you will inevitably get the person who says "I have a 4.0 GPA, published 29 articles and started a charity, do I have a chance" .... which is so unhelpful.
Thanks!!
10.07.2025 03:54 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Interesting. I honestly haven't had the time to fully dive into the bluesky features (yay TT job!) But maybe I need to get better about that.
One advantage the other app had was that it pushed out content to the right people (for the most part)
Oh man, Reddit can be full of reallt bad advice! But I get the pull. I find Reddit best with a big bucket of popcorn ๐ฟ๐
10.07.2025 03:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is helpful. Clearly my second post was better timed. Is there a time of day that works best?
10.07.2025 03:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So this is a great example. This post barely made to a couple of accounts.
What am I doing wrong on here? Can someone help explain the Bluesky algorithm to me so I know how to get advice out to the right people?
It sucks when you want to help students, but your voice gets lost.
I used to post advice for students about applying to grad school on the bird app. Those posts were popular, and I heard from students that they were helpful in preparing applications. But I dont get nearly the same views on this app or instagram. Where are students going now for this type of advice?

28.05.2025 15:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Reading the news and comments to stories, I feel like people need to learn the difference between "socialist", "communist", "fascist" and "dictatorships".
Here is a simplified version of how to understand it.

Happening after acceptance now too. Just had a paper take 3.5 months to come out after being accepted. 1.5 months after we proofed it (which we were given 48 hours to do).
18.05.2025 04:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I hate seeing what is happening in the US with research grant funds.
Canada needs to pay attention and not let that happen up here. If anything, this is the time to be investing in research to fill the massive hole these grant cancellations will cause.

To my computer engineering colleagues, why are we so focused on teaching AI to reproduce art and music and not focused on teaching it to effectively clean our homes?
You all have AI mimicking songs but my roomba can't figure out how to clean a whole room without getting stuck under the bed.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant my American colleagues do not seem aware. So agreeing with you :)
15.05.2025 18:11 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Having more discussions about this with colleagues. I know what's happening up here but I'm curious, are there similar feelings from other parts of the world? Anyone want to weigh in?
15.05.2025 17:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0From discussions I've been having I feel like many are not aware that this is happening.
I am also wondering if it's just Canadians or other countries have similar feelings?
Yup we got that offer too! And blank laptops.
Also make sure you delete any sensitive or academic data from the device in advance and sign out of any cloud storage.
Yes, I was referring to the CAUT recommendations. Guelph has also advised caution and sent specific instructions on what to do if searched at the border. Times are crazy.
14.05.2025 20:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm not sure my US colleagues are aware but we have been told not to travel to the US unless necessary. So no US conferences for us for the foreseeable future. Anyone else in a similar situation?

We didn't code for what specific school they came from, just US vs. Canada vs. other (Europe mainly). US did have slightly more pubs, but I think nonsig. I think there is also a quality vs. quantity issue.
09.05.2025 14:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0That definitely seems to be the case. Which is so sad! Why do we devalue Canadian programs?
