The Whitefish Point Light was built in 1849 to aid ships navigating the treacherous stretch of Lake Superior now known as the "Graveyard of the Great Lakes".
There are 200+ shipwrecks near this lighthouse, including the SS Edmund Fitzgerald which sank 50 years ago today.
