I don't know that I have many Ithaca followers here but in the event that I do, a reminder that our garage art/performance space Neighbors Gallery is hosting Bhob Rainey and Lucky Crumbs this Sunday evening and I'm excited to hear the music and to give our new PA system a whirl!

I only discovered his music recently (guess I'm a dummy), but I sure listened to it a lot once I got smart. Particularly Dockings and Burundi. The latter in spite of a perhaps too generous helping of didgeridoo. RIP

I often think about the time that hitchBOT got destroyed in Philadelphia and everyone was like, Ha ha, of course! That's the only city in America with stupid and violent people! And then I wonder what people would do now if an obsequious robot showed up on their street.

Finished the first last month. So good. It's kinda good to be outside the lit world, because I'm sure that within it are a lot of people being annoying about Knausgaard.

Fire Walk With Me is such an incredible and devastating film, I often think it's a shame that it is nearly impossible to grok without familiarity with the TP canon, particularly in the way the film subverts it. At least that canon is also great.

I mean, it would be so cool to be amazed that you can type some words and get something that reminds you of recorded music in a very short period of time. It's surprising and weird! But then context steps in.

It's also kinda funny that the app inserts "neon lights" and "whispers" into lyrics so often that platforms are flagging songs with those words in them.

This probably reads as dinosaur talk to the converts, but, as I've said elsewhere about all these kinds of things, playing an instrument in a group is, at minimum, fun. Fussing with prompts at a black box that would happily burn Jupiter for a country song is, at maximum, sad.

Right now, a bunch of people are paying Suno for the privilege of training and beta testing it until it either dies or goes fully "enterprise" pricing.

It's possible that this all fizzles out once people have made 6000 songs that no one wants to listen to. And at some point, the cost to use it this way will be staggering. Probably some piece of this gets folded into a tool that sees general adoption in a more traditional workflow.

An algorithm beat me this morning, because seeing this (from the Suno Studio FB group) got me "engaged", and it's bleak out there. I did like one guy dispensing the advice that, until you've made 6000-7000 ai songs, you don't know what separates quality from novelty.

I've recommended this show so many times, mostly to polite nods. It's probably the last show I truly loved, and, now, years later, I often find myself in laughtears remembering some bit from it.
