Just finished this yesterday and madly in love with it (especially Jacket, who is a very good boy). Popped a glowing review up on Amazon, and not just because I know the author. This really is one of the best modern urban sci-fi fantasy books I've read in a while. Definitely worth your time.

I agree about Brexit. The antisemitism thing was a fake news-assisted demolition by the UK media though, who hammered away at the lie that anti-Zionism = antisemitism. One of the most rotten bits of propaganda I've ever seen.

Wow, interesting. I see ZP as a leader the Left has been waiting for since the 80s, principled but charismatic enough to stand up to the far right bias of UK media. What puts you off him?

Successive interviews by Nick Robinson this morning perfectly sum up the BBC:
with Zack Polanski: sneering, aggressive, constantly interrupting.
with David Bull, Reform's Chairman: polite, nodding along, barely any interruptions.
Amazing. Will share the link when it's up so you can listen too.

Cockney Gothic
Few who drift along the ever changing streets of the East End guess just how high the graves are piled beneath their feet. London is a city built upon the remains of those who trod those well worn β¦
OK, so seeing as there is no official #FolkloreThursday this week I'm going to share an example of how personal mythology and spirit of place can impact someone as they grow instead, especially in a storied city such as London. This one saw print in an Anathema Publishing hardcover back in 2021.

So Reform plan to deport up to 288,000 people a year if they are elected.
Conveniently, thatβs almost exactly the number of registered Reform members.
Letβs deport them instead.
They are mostly couch potato OAPs and they really wouldnβt be missed.
Job done β peace restored.

Ancient DNA Reveals Europeβs Last Hunter-Gatherers Survived Thousands of Years Longer Than Expected
Ancient DNA shows that hunter-gatherers in northwestern Europe endured for millennia, with women driving a gradual cultural shift toward farming.
The findings that come from an DNA studies fascinate me. The fact that DNA can even be extracted from ancient bones (and sometimes teeth) is amazing.

Strange Structures Found Lurking in The Blood of People With Long COVID
A hidden physical change in the body may be helping to drive the prolonged malaise some people experience after contracting COVID-19.
Microclots and neutrophil extracellular traps merge to form structures that may contribute to thrombosis and atherosclerosis in patients with long Covid. While this research is in its early days, it may pinpoint not only a diagnosis of long Covid but potentially a therapeutic target.

Drug deaths have risen every year for 13 years.
Thatβs 13 years of a failed βwar on drugsβ.
Labour should be looking at legalisation, control and regulation - not playing politics with peopleβs lives.
This is a public health crisis. Treat it like one. Not a game.

Fauxrage as PooTin's sock puppet, and lyrics:
He's a traitor / He's a grifter
He's a fraud / He's a con
Never cared for England / He's Vladdy PooTin's lapdog
Nigel's wrong / Nigel's Gone
Sing! Sing! It raises your mood and improves immune function. As does damaging the reputation of fascists amongst their supporters. Farrago is vulnerable, keep the pressure up! Sing a little every day, every bit helps.
